Nothing is collected. Here is the long version anyway.

1. The applications

What is never collected

No account is created or required. No identifier, advertising or otherwise, is generated or transmitted. No usage statistics, feature counts, crash pings, session lengths, screen views or diagnostics are sent to us. No advertising or analytics software development kits are present, and neither is anyone else’s code: the applications are built from the operating system’s own frameworks and code written by this studio. There is nothing inside them that could report on you, because nothing capable of it was ever added.

Your photographs and files

Baryta reads image files from places you choose — a network share you configure, or a folder you select on your own Mac. It reads them in order to display them and does not upload, publish, index or transmit them anywhere. It makes no changes to them and writes nothing back to your server. The only copy it makes is the temporary one on your own device described under Caches below.

Your servers and credentials

Server addresses, share names and folder paths you enter are stored on your device so the application can reconnect. Passwords are held in the operating system’s Keychain, which is encrypted and managed by the operating system rather than by us; you can inspect or delete them at any time in Keychain Access. Credentials are sent only to the server you entered them for, over the network protocol that server speaks, and never to us or to anyone else. We do not operate any server your copy of the software talks to.

Caches

To make browsing fast, Baryta keeps a working set of images in memory and may spill fetched data and reduced-size previews into the application’s Caches directory on your device. This is temporary by design: it is size-capped, entries expire after a few days, the operating system may purge it at any moment, and deleting it loses nothing. It is never a catalog, it is never uploaded, and it lives only on the machine that created it.

Settings

Preferences — window state, zoom behaviour, thumbnail size, which folder you were last looking at — are stored locally by the operating system in the usual way for an application of this kind. They stay on your device.

The two places something reaches the network

Both are actions you take deliberately, and both are named here rather than hidden behind the word “nothing”.

• Maps. If you raise the information display to its top level on a photograph that carries location coordinates, Baryta draws a small map using Apple’s Maps framework, which requests map imagery from Apple using those coordinates. That request is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy; we neither see it nor receive anything from it. The location display is off by default and appears only when you ask for it.
• Sharing. If you use the system share sheet, the file goes wherever you direct it — Mail, Messages, AirDrop, another application — under that destination’s own terms. Nothing is shared unless you choose the destination yourself.

Aside from these, the only network traffic the software generates is to the servers on your own network that you configured, including the local network discovery used to find them.

Crash reports

The applications contain no crash-reporting code. If you have chosen, in your device’s own privacy settings, to share crash and usage data with app developers, Apple may provide us with anonymised, aggregated crash reports through App Store Connect. That choice is yours to make and to reverse, it is administered by Apple rather than by us, and such reports contain no photographs, file names, server addresses or personal information.

Purchases

Applications are sold through the App Store. Apple handles the transaction, the payment details and the receipt; we never see your payment information, name or address. Apple provides us with aggregate sales and territory figures that identify no one.

2. This website

The site is a handful of static files. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage, runs no JavaScript at all, and loads no fonts, scripts, images or stylesheets from any other company. There are no analytics, no tracking pixels, no embedded videos and no social widgets. Nothing here profiles you and nothing here follows you elsewhere.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes the ordinary technical data required to deliver a page and to protect the site from abuse, such as your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested and your browser’s user-agent string. That processing is Cloudflare’s, under its privacy policy. We do not enable analytics reporting on it, do not build profiles from it, and do not combine it with anything else.

3. If you write to us

When you send mail to a @theelegantviolin.com address, we necessarily hold your message and your address in order to read and answer it. That correspondence is used for that purpose and no other. It is never sold, never shared, and never added to a mailing list — there is no mailing list. Mail is hosted by Apple as part of iCloud, under Apple’s privacy policy. Ask and your correspondence will be deleted.

4. Your rights

Data-protection laws including the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete and port the personal information a company holds about you, and to object to its sale. We hold none, so in the ordinary course there is nothing to produce, correct, delete or port, and there has never been anything to sell. The single exception is correspondence you have sent us yourself, covered above.

If you believe otherwise, write and say so; you are also entitled to complain to your local data-protection authority.

5. Children

The applications and this site are not directed at children, and no personal information is knowingly — or unknowingly — collected from anyone of any age.

6. Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it and the substance of the change is described here. Because the promise is a property of how the software is built rather than a policy choice, a change that weakened it would require rebuilding the software — which is rather the point of putting it this way.

7. Who we are, and how to reach us

The Elegant Violin LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Florida, United States, is the controller of any personal information described above.
